DateDescription
01/01/2000I received my Maine Foresters License in Jan 2000 and have worked as a private consultant since then. I have written scores of management plans for various woodland owners in six Maine counties over the intervening years, many of which followed the guidelines and standards of EQIP CAP, many of which followed the guidelines and standards of the Maine Forest Service, and many of which were more simple plans designed to meet the minumum requirements for the Maine Tree Growth Tax Law (a Current use taxation law). All of these plans received some sort of scrutiny, either from NRCS or Maine Forest Service or Maine Revenue Service, and were successfully accepted for their intended function. I have successfully implemented many silivicultural projects resulting from these various plans on my own properties and those of my clients over the years, specializing in crop tree release and young stand thinnings without pesticides. I am directly familiar with the assessment, ranking, and implementation process of the current EQIP system, as I participate in my Countys annual work group with the local District Conservationist.
01/01/1979I have served on the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District as an assistant supervisor since 2011. In this capacity I have helped implement farming and forestry projects in the county, and helped manage the Districts forestland and farm properties. I have met with county and state government officials in regards to soil and water and forest conservation interests. I have served on the board for the Forest Products Marketing and Management Cooperative in Dover Foxcroft Maine from 1979 to 1983, and the board of Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Assn as a member of the Low Impact Forestry Committee from 2005 to 2015, and have been a member of the Forest Guild since 1998.
01/01/1975Low Impact Forestry (LIF) logging operations. I have been one of the founders of the LIF at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. This program has provided numerous workshops to increase the management knowledge and harvesting skills of farmers and other small woodlot owners. I have been an active logger since 1974 on my own property and that of others. I was in the first cohort of Certified Logging Professionals in 1991, and I have managed many logging jobs for my forestry clients since 2000.
